Rockweb is a web site for the rock music. Main section is Rock Star's Digest, quite a big database including basic artist info. Other, hopefully interesting points are Charts and Vinyl collections. Also offered is special info about the author.

Rockweb is not by any means a commercial site. It's a hobby one — dear, serious and fun hobby. However, there might be some tiny »advertises» somewhere on site now and then. Mostly for Open Source products, but also the ones like Google's AdSense. Just for fun, really.

All sections on site are described and other additional info given next. You may click links below or scroll.

Rock Star's Digest

Constantly growing main section. This basic artist info includes birthday, place of birth, cause of death, some trivia and specific links. Important piece of information is perhaps Best known at, which tells you something relevant about the artist. In case of an individual artist this means mostly some famous and charted recordings, and talking about the member of the band, of course, the current or former groups. Sometimes both.

All the given info has been checked from various sources in the Internet. Despite that and due to the nature of the Internet, some disinfo might occur.

When the specific link is given, its name is taken straight from the source code on that site. Therefore, it often looks messy or strange. Why not — they wanted it that way. So there's no sense of makin' changes and no time for that either.

Charts

Seven different charts are offered. Best albums and songs, the international ones and the Finnish ones. Also lists for the best Beatles and CCR songs. And finally, the best Finnish cover songs. The Finnish charts are written in Finnish and the other ones in English. Slight reviews also keeps on coming every week.

Vinyl Collections

This section include site author's vinyl albums listed and also tiny single records collection. For each album there will be a sub page with the list of tracks, cover pictures and other details. Though, it's a huge job so please, be patient about this.

Music Links

Two kind of links on Rockweb site: those specific ones on Rock Star's Digest section and these ones. There's a difference on this. Links on 'Digest' should be considered like »quick ones» — mostly just picked up right from the first page on search engine results.

This 'Music links' is another story. Links are carefully collected and tested and there are also »rules»: no poor design or badly behaving sites accepted.

Finnish Lyrics

Whilst playing (drums and vocal) in the band ever since when youngster and performing as a lazy troubadour later, I've collected pretty nice pile of all kind of lyrics. Mostly Finnish ones. Unfortunately Finnish law (copyrights) do not allow to put them on the net available for free download. Have to wait the day when this copyright business will be rewritten. Until then, only headers are shown on site with the links not functioning. Though, there might be other ways... 8-^

Search Tips

Search function on Rockweb site is rather simple. Type the keyword(s) and click the 'Rock' button. However, the results depends very much on how you type those words. Like:

1.  Fogerty
2.  John Fogerty
3.  "John Fogerty"
4.  "Fogerty John"
5.  "Fogerty John" album
6.  "Fogerty John" album ridge

All of those gives different result. Basically, more keywords gets better (less!) search results. But perhaps it's better to think about it a bit before typing anything. See next:

Lookin' for an artist on Rock Star's Digest section best result comes by using quotation marks and typing surname first. It's beacuse the artist names are written in that order.

Tryin' to find e.g. a song or an album info it's very important to use quatation marks. It's completely different ball game to type: she loves you (three separate words) or "she loves you" (with quotation marks).

Hope this helps. And of course, type carefully. Log files on the server shows that there are lot of failed searches done due to bad typos. 8-^
